That the meat used in this stew should be British is, quite frankly, a no-brainer. But the selection process shouldn't stop there.
Our West Country beef is from pure bred Hereford cattle, selected for its purity, taste and eating quality. But just as important, it comes from a traditional farming family that we know and trust.
This 'superfood' has a great nutty flavour and is unique among grains in that it can go straight from field to plate without being processed at all, making black barley the 'wholest' of whole grains.
Black barley originated in Ethiopia, the so-called 'cradle of civilisation' (so that'll please our little cavemen). It has been cultivated for over 10,000 years and is packed full of vitamins and minerals, as well as being a powerful antioxidant.
Low in fat and high in fibre, black barley has a low GI count, helping to combat diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity. It also helps reduce food cravings, is anti carcinogenic and helps fight rheumatoid arthritis.
So black barley is pretty incredible stuff. It'll probably invent time travel next.
Keep refrigerated below 5°C.
Once opened, consume within 2 days.
SUITABLE FOR HOME FREEZING. If freezing, consume within 3 months and allow extra time for heating.
MICROWAVE (850W Cat.E):
Remove sleeve and lid. Rest lid loosely on top. Heat for 3½ minutes on full power, stirring halfway through. Allow to stand for 1 minute.

Empty contents into a saucepan.
Warm on a medium heat, stirring occasionally, until piping hot (usually 5 - 6 minutes).
CHECK CONTENTS ARE PIPING HOT BEFORE SERVING.
Sensational convenience food.
This one was delicious - spicy, great texture, lots of red pepper and plenty of shredded beef - great texture.

I've tried loads of meal pots over the years. These are the best by a country mile: low cal - natural - tasty and consistent as well. Add a dollop of cottage cheese after heating - honestly try it!
